Spiridoula Kouraki

Hello! My name is Spyridoula Kouraki, and I am an illustrator based in Chania, Crete.

I would like to begin with a quote by Paul Klee:

“One eye sees, the other feels.”

It is this invisible reality — the one I shape through my imagination — that I wish to share with you.

I studied painting at the Fine Arts Department that operated at the Technical University of Crete. Over the years, I have also devoted myself to the study of traditional illustration through seminars, extensive research, and continuous personal practice.

In 2023, I took part in the illustration competition organised by the Cultural Foundation of the Bank of Cyprus, where I was awarded First Prize. I was subsequently commissioned to complete the illustrations for the children’s story The Starfish and the Star, published by Teleia Editions.

I have participated in several group exhibitions, including The “D” of Rights, organised to mark the 20th anniversary of the Network for Children’s Rights, as well as a group exhibition dedicated to Mikis Theodorakis.

I work primarily on paper, using familiar materials such as watercolors, brushes, inks, colored pencils, and collage. I enjoy experimenting with textures and combining different techniques, always placing particular emphasis on atmosphere and on expressing the emotions of my characters.
